SECS (SEMI Equipment Communications Standard)/GEM (Generic Equipment Model) is communication interface protocols for communication between semiconductor devices and a fab host. Fab-Host is a software application that controls and monitors device processing using the SECS/GEM protocol. SECS/GEM compliant devices can communicate with the fab host either via TCP/IP (using SEMI standards E37 and E37.1 – HSMS) or RS-232 (using SEMI standard E4 – SECS-I).
The SECS/GEM standard interface is used to start and stop device processing, collect measurement data, select recipes for products, and change variables. With SECS/GEM all of this can be done out of the box. The SECS/GEM protocol was standardized by the non-profit association SEMI (Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International). How does SECS/GEM work?
The SECS GEM protocol is used to send remote commands such as device processing start/stop, measurement data collection, change variables, and product recipe selection.
The SECS/GEM Interface is used in most devices in semiconductor manufacturing (front-end and back-end), Surface Mount Technology (SMT), Electronic Assembly, Photovoltaic, Flat Panel Display (FPD), and other related industries across the world. This enables communication between Factory Host Software and Equipment for effective monitoring and controls.
